Club Phred rocked the Deer Park last night. This is a band of local musicians, several of whom have played in various Newark bands over the years. They started playing together informally a year or so ago, and have developed a popular set list of classic songs from the 60's and 70's. The musicians balance each other nicely. The interplay among them adds richness and complexity to the songs they cover. They play the audience well, injecting their enthusiasm into the crowd. The dance floor was packed most of the evening, quite a testament considering the majority of the crowd was over 50. It is obvious that this group of musicians not only loves playing music, but truly enjoy playing together, which adds to the audience experience. Their joy in playing is contagious; the applause and whistles after each number rivaled those at any large concert venue. The only thing Club Phred should do differently at future events is to play longer! Rock on.
